Refugees – “just because it isn’t happening here doesn’t mean it isn’t happening”

This video was released by Save the Children and I think it serves to remind us of the human cost involved when we use the term “refugee”.

As contemporary educators, the increase in such large numbers of displaced people potentially challenges the way we prepare our students to respond as global citizens to crises such as this. It is important that we don’t become desensitised by terminology and remember the human lives behind these tragedies, and as such, that we address them appropriately with our students, whether they be migrants, refugees or Australian-born.
